it is no exaggeration to say that ultrastretch has accumulated an array of outstanding releases and artists since its creation in 2011. one knows that being as renown a representative of the underground music scene as sammy dee is, he can easily sign music from any established artist he would like, the so called ‘big names’, however, when we look at the past seven releases on ultrastretch, the agenda here seems to be another. what has become an apparent and admirable feature of this label/platform and of sammy dee himself is his clear support for new music from young and yet to be discovered talents. it is on that note that ultrastretch 08 brings you romanian artist crihan. hailing from a small town close to cluj, alin crihan moved to bucharest in 2009 to be more in touch with the underground scene and music in the capital as it poses more opportunities for him to grow and develop. from dj’ing in the most various clubs in his home country, his first steps into western europe as a dj came earlier last year at no less than the legendary robert johnson club alongside petre inspirescu in frankfurt. producing under his real name for the past four years, crihan’s release for ultrastretch brings two tracks, setting the listener into two very distinctive paths. the a side, * uelden* is a dance floor oriented track. the first words to come to mind are groove and rhythm, giving the track a somewhat funky feeling overall. the elements have been crafted carefully and therefore appropriately placed just where and when you need them. by simply starting the track with a bass line and shuffling hihats he slowly develops to a journey that not onlyventures further into groove and rhythm but also in mind grabbing harmonies with deep/airy sounding pads giving it a comforting sense of beauty and obscurity. the b side is called a doua dimensiune, literally translated from romanian it means the second dimension. doing justice to the title the track does generate the feeling of being in another dimension. it is a very deep affair into mind-altering soundscapes, very atmospheric and at times dark and obscure. attention to detail is apparent judging by the overlayering of elements featured in this track. a constant rolling base formed of water tapping ambient sounds give way to harmonies made up of strings and random noises on top.

when a label within thirteen catalog releases has only one of them branded as various artists, than the focus on this release seems to be really interesting. exactly that is the case with dreizehn and its three protagonists.

prolific dutch artist conforce is back with another lp on delsin records. this one marks something of a subtle evolution in his sound in that it returns to a more organic and immersive aesthetic. made using various bits of outboard gear, it fuses dub rhythm with ambient detail and propulsive 4/4 kick drums to make for absorbing listening. once again, then, this album proves no one does deep electronic music as well as conforce.

pawas is someone we have admired for a while for his work ethic and talent. his multicultural background was a nice mix into the equation as we push to bring together and collaborate with artists from various regions and influences.

* rust* is the debut single from the new collaborative project between harry agius (better known as midland) and vocalist robbie redway. the project was formed in leeds, written in london and finished in berlin under the influence of ewan pearson. as midland, harry agius has built a reputation for releasing delicately brilliant bass driven house and techno, and over the course of his various releases he has hinted at a desire to explore sounds away from the dancefloor. coupled with the songwriting talents and vocals of robbie redway, *rust* is the first taste of that exploration.

a major 2lp collection of archival recordings by seminal minimalist composer, performer, instrument builder and visual artist arnold dreyblatt. second selection presents eleven pieces selected by oren ambarchi from dreyblatts extensive archive of previously unreleased recordings. recorded in beautifully varying fidelity between 1978 and 1989, the pieces range from solo works to documents of various iterations of dreyblatts long running orchestra of excited strings

waehlscheibe is back: the swiss label keeps on doing what it does best and releases another truly deep and dubby house record. this time its japanese artist takuya morita known for his releases on morris / audio and adjunct who pleases with soft pads and chords, rich delays and ultra low basses. all four tracks on this record are strictly instrumental and oscillate nicely between deep house and techno. moreover, they cover a wide range of moods suitable for playing at various times of the night. the >placid sunset ep< comes with a special 2nd version of the title track which has been reconstructed and stripped down by s&ro and alessandro crimi from waehlscheibe. as always all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

for the past few years, young denmark vessey has been releasing a series of albums, both as a leader of carious groups and as a sideman in various others, which definitely mark him as one of the most exciting young players in music. vessey’s last album prior to this (2013’s cult classic) employed scud one for the rhythm section. vessey, in his own playing suggest that he may be forging a link between the new mainstream and prior innovations. it is to vessey’s credit that this album achieves a surprising degree of unity. there is little of the haphazard feeling that too often arrends blowing sessions by pick-up bands. it would be easier to mistake this for a group which works regularly. part of that is simply because vessey is a part of the new mainstream, the part that is seeking beyond the accepted common language to find ways of extending it. the rest is because of vessey’s unusual talent.

jeff derringer’s ballorama e.p. is the fourth release from brooklyn born and now berlin based label l.a.g. run by arthur kimskii. the e.p. contains two original tracks the from chicago based techno producer/ smart bar resident with an additional dub version from the duo cassegrain. ballorama is the big room techno bomb with hints of 90&#8242,,,s rave and house like chords and chops. work ethic is an emotional sci-fi roller with restrained emotional melodic tension anchored by rhythmic percussion. the ballorama dub version strips down the original and expertly pans various noise and textures which bounces with tension.

a new white label brought to you by a group of friends including moire&#769,,,,,,,, disguise, etc. in collaboration with phonica records. this marks the debut release from the creative imprint neversleep whose previous work includes the art direction and a&r of moire&#769,,,,,,,’s debut lp *shelter* - out now on werkdiscs/ninja tune - plus various visual work from disguise.

secretsundaze 017 comes from london based producer endian. releasing just 2 eps in a few years on nonplus and electric minds, endian has nevertheless managed to to turn the heads of the likes of steffi who used one of his tracks for her panorama bar compilation and boddika who also licensed a track for a various artists ep. sounding like a producer far more experienced than the two releases would indicate, it came as no surprise that this is far from the the output of a novice but the seasoned veteran george levings aka commix (metalheadz).

opener -she loves it- layers graceful elements, drifting sounds, pirouetting percussion and lets them slowly roll in like a thick fog. bvoice,anrilov & sickdisco deliver a more minimalistic version of -she loves it-. this guys are a great trio from moscow, analog gurus, already released on pro-tez, highway, time has changed, body parts. on the other side we have another piece of material from kirik called somewhere, which does the same job with similar elements. its melodious drum loop is the fulcrum around which densely layered hi-hats, shakers and various pads bounce and rotate. label boss, dirty culture deliver a more driven house version of somewhere, a more digestiv aproach. good vibes and melodic grooves from eastern europe, on wax!

matches sets the scene alight in the early months of 2015 with this multi-faceted four track burner on arkhive london. having cut his teeth on the east london party circuit as a dj under various monikers, matches has carved a superior workout inspired by some of motor citys foremost ambassadors of dark funk. this package is a full expose of his range as a producer, starting out with some early evening swagger before easing through the gears to a climax of an altogether housier ilk.

our first release for 2015 comes from chicagoan, area. his previous releases on various labels including his own, kimochi, show a producer who spans many genres while maintaining a particular aesthetic. this untethered approach has lead to *one less me* — one of his most moving records to date. area has melded elements from bass music, industrial, electroacoustic, spoken-word and techno into 3 tracks that distill their influences into something greater than the sum of its parts.

the globally trendsetting house and techno family that is visionquest now turns to a new pairing of sonny fodera & gene farris for their debut ep on the label. entitled ‘we work it’, the two-track affair comes with a remix by visionquest man lee curtiss. australian sonny fodera has been at the sharp end of the dance music scene for years now, clocking up huge hits both solo and with green velvet aka cajmere, releasing albums such as afterparties & aeroplanes and appearing on cajual, defected, suara and many more top labels. gene farris, of course, is a chicago house legend who has been active since the nineties, runs his own farris wheel label and has released close to one hundred definitive eps on relief, soma and many others. up first, ‘we work it’ is a lithe ritual of house funk with bent synths and slick mid tempo drums. a spoken word vocal snippet muses on the intake of various substances and the drums roll on infectiously below. it’s sure to be a standout anthem in the months to come given that vocal line and the spiritualness of the keys all around only adds to the effect. the first remix comes from lee curtiss. this one is a much quicker and more peak time bit of tech house with textured, dynamic bass and plenty of drum fills. it’s an involved, more cosmic and tense take on the original, that will build great pressure on the dance floor. all in all this is another on point package from visionquest that will get played far and wide

following on from the well received various artists series from the lab to the club, mindtrip 09 sees the return of label boss, pfirter, with 4 brand new tracks, which encapsulate mindtrips musical philosophy perfectly. the sonic soundscape of otras dimensiones opens proceedings, layering dark and ambient textures.

special nice price blow out ... dukes of chutney is john paul jones and dustin lynn, california born brothers from other cosmic mothers who met surfing over a decade ago. the flavor of the dukes musical chutney is an abstract but balanced mixture of many disciplines. under the moniker tom croose, jones has established a beguiling production touch to various edits and remixes. lynn is an accomplished filmmaker who has collaborated with artist gabriel orozco and directed campaigns for designers alexander mcqueen and corto moltedo.

for the nineth offering on public possession anton klint returns with another highly danceable two track ep. save yourself some time and have drunch, is what is suggested on a sticker gracing the cover. this dictum can be interpreted in various ways, but one thing is for sure, if you buy this record - you will have at least two tracks that will help you control the dancefloor with ease any given night

bash006 comes courtesy of brendon moeller. one-third of bm/cc/cw, the collaborative project between brendon, clay, and certain creatures, brendon is a prolific producer of various excursions across the electronic spectrum. under such guises as the echologist and beat pharmacy, his intricate dub techno tracks have been released on a variety of labels over the last 20 years, such as francois ks deep space and prologue. pressing on red colored / black marbled vinyl.

here comes the second blind spot music vinyl with some of our favourite techno artists on the board. the original track scattered produced by the japanese ryuji takeuchi and it is a proper peak time smasher. ryuji after a few remixes is finally landing with an original track on blind spot music. in the past techno fans have heared his unique style on various releases on label likes of nachtstrom schallplatten, sick weird rough, huehelix or his own imprint local sound network.
on the remix duties are: mallorcas techno ambassador angel costa, who has released on some of the most prestigious labels of the techno scene such as clr, electric deluxe, micro.fon. the german michael schwarz, whose unique driving-techno materials came out on driving forces, wall music, praxxiz and at last but not least blind spots very own dr hoffmann & gabeen. the duo is infecting the techno scene slowly with their lethal sounds.
